Primary 1 Chinese

This programme is designed to help students to build knowledge of vocabulary and sentence structure to manage formal components of Chinese language study in Primary 1, while nurturing a connection with the language. 

Our curriculum focuses on building students’ interest and confidence in the language through the integration of story telling, games and skill-based components. We provide students with an engaging and systematic approach. This is to language learning, so as to build a strong foundation of key academic skills.

Vocabulary

In-class vocabulary games and activities will help your child:

• Recall new words learnt and able to differentiate words with similar forms, meanings and pronunciation 
• Learn how to categorise words into verbs, nouns and adjectives 
• Construct sentence with the words learnt 

Listening, speaking and communication

Frequent in-class group discussion and 1 to1 oral practices covering various relevant themes will help your child:

• Gain confidence in reading aloud and fluently
• Learn different sentence structure and thematic vocabulary to craft accurate verbal response 
• Learn how to communicate in Chinese confidently in daily life

Reading comprehension

Story analysis and skill-based workshops will help your child:

• Learn to comprehend a story / passage effectively and overcome challenging vocabularies
• Learn to identify keywords and analyse question requirements
• Learn to look for clues in the passage and craft specific answers for specific question types 

Writing

Workshops with structure framework will help your child:

• Learn to apply basic elements of story writing technique to plan a logical and captivating story
• Learn to ensure logical story flow and sound content development to avoid losing marks 
• Learn to apply varied sentence structures and thematic descriptive phrases in composition

Timed practices and customised feedbacks

• Hone time management skills for each component
• Allow you child to learn from each others’ strength and weakness
• Helping your child to have a better understanding of their strength and weakness

Mastering the language use
